I recently came back from a wedding weekend in Vegas. Not only was it in Vegas, but it was over Halloween weekend – making it an interesting one! I’ve realized that no matter how many times I’ve been to Vegas (8 counting this trip! – living in LA for 2 years made it easy), some things don’t really get old. I’m a huge fan of exploring new places, but Vegas weekends never really disappoint. There’s always something new to find, but also those staples that are fun time and time again. So here’s my list of general Vegas favorites that I keep on doing (for now!) and that keep me coming back.
Walking the strip: I love walking the entire Vegas strip. It’s a must-do whenever I am there because it’s the best way to see the new casinos, restaurants and street entertainment. The monorail is a fast way to get from one side to another, and there are always taxis. But walking is the best way to get acquainted with Vegas and do some serious people watching.
Bellagio Fountains: The Bellagio hotel is famous for it’s fountain show that runs daily starting mid-afternoon to night, at 15 or 30 minute intervals. Awesome show that always attracts a crowd.
Flamingos at the Flamingo Hotel: Who doesn’t love flamingos? This might be a random favorite of mine, but the Wildlife Habitat at the Flamingo Hotel is a free escape from the craziness of the casinos and strip. Along with the famous flamingos are swans, pelicans, turtles and more.
Fun slot games: One thing that can get old is playing the table games. After a long Blackjack night several years ago, I learned my lesson with this one. However, slot games are relatively harmless and just take a few coins to enjoy. While I haven’t won personally, I’ve had 3 friends win small earnings on my last few trips there. It’s possible!
Frozen drinks (with an extra shot): I always get a frozen drink when I go to Vegas. I’m usually a basic drinker – Patron/soda, Hendricks/soda – but when I go to Vegas I want the sugariest mixed drink possible. It just feels right.
Pool parties: It took awhile for me to get into the Vegas pool party scene, but once I went to a few good ones I was hooked. The vibe is always good, hot bodies, great people watching, awesome music. Marquee, Wet and Encore have big pool parties, and Light at the Mandalay Bay just opened this summer which is supposed to have a good one too. These are all pretty intense options, so for a more low key and upscale pool scene I recommend the Wynn. Pool party season kicks off Memorial Day and runs through October.
